An upscale venue surrounded by the Niagara Escarpment, Crosswinds Golf & Country Club offers guests the ultimate in location, food and service

When we started our research on this wedding venue, we knew there was something special there. Right on the border of Milton and Burlington, just 10-15 minutes off highways 401 or 403, lies a luxurious indulgence called Crosswinds Golf & Country Club. The beauty of their location (see photos to the right) and the enormous pride they take in their five-star food and exceptional service makes this a place your guests will not forget. Let us explain...

The Setting...

The entire experience starts even before you arrive. Quaint hamlets and endless Ontario farmlands welcome you as you make the short drive off the highway. As you arrive at Crosswinds Golf & Country Club, lush rolling hills interspersed with pretty ponds greet you, flanked by the rugged cliffs of two of the most spectacular points on the Niagara Escarpment Rattlesnake Point and Mount Nemo. Such a breathtaking setting makes this public golf course a hidden gem, not only for golfers teeing off on groomed greens in the summer, but for engaged couples looking for the perfect spot to tie the knot.

You might be surprised to discover that Crosswinds is actually a public golf course – its grandeur might have you mistakenly thinking all that luxury and opulence must surely mean it is only for the elite. Yet, for all its veneer of exquisite elegance, this gorgeous golf course is humble enough to share its glory with those in love – and truly makes for a wedding venue like no other.

Outdoor Ceremony Area…

Annabel Middleton, who got married in the fall of 2010, describes the setting perfectly: “We fell in love with the outdoor ceremony site when we first saw the place – that drew us back to Crosswinds after all the venues we had visited. We LOVED the beautiful bridge that led up to the gazebo. The quaint little bridge that sits over a cobblestone-lined stream was a big highlight – we decorated it with tulle-draped long-stemmed roses, creating the perfect path for a bride to walk down the aisle. Symbolically, as you walk across the bridge, it also represented the crossing over from a season of singleness to a new season of marriage!”

“The gorgeous tall 100-year-old trees flanking the gazebo in its own enclave made for a simply romantic spot to tie the knot. In the fall, the foliage is a sight to behold -- with the manicured greens of the golf course serving as a background to enhance the myriad of fall colours.”

“The best part of our wedding day was that as we exchanged our vows under beautiful blue skies, surrounded by a canopy of magnificent trees, the leaves began to fall as if on cue! Our guests told us later that it was such a magical moment, to see the falling leaves while our officiant pronounced us man and wife!”

After the ceremony, your guests can enjoy a drink in the sunshine on the beautiful patio or mingle in the Grand Hall while you are having your pictures taken.

The Grand Hall...

Step through the wide doors of the Grand Hall, and its magnificence will take your breath away. Marked by high ceilings in a spacious banquet hall that is fit for royalty, one can imagine the plethora of fine feasts that take place here.

Its most outstanding feature must surely be its floor-to-ceiling windows that offer breathtaking vistas of the golf course and its horizons. On a clear day, endless golfing greens greet you, as if you and your guests are dining in the middle of the golf course itself. If it should rain, conducting your wedding ceremony in this Grand Hall with its full-length windows will make it seem like you were still outdoors!

Unlike other halls that often overdo the trimmings in their attempt to impress, Crosswinds has nailed elegance with simplicity that speaks volumes. For the inspired bride who wants to inject her personality into the decor, the beige and brown colours are neutral enough to allow lots of room for creativity. However, even without additional décor, Crosswinds' Grand Hall exudes upscale elegance in its au naturel state – ready for a celebration at a moment’s notice.

The Staff...

Part of making your day a success is the team effort of the Crosswinds’ staff to ensure that your wedding day flows seamlessly. They only host one wedding at a time so you know you are getting their full, undivided attention for the day.

Dr. Shannon Servos, whose daughter was married at Crosswinds in the summer of 2010 says: “This incredible experience certainly began long before the day itself and involves such an extensive list of Crosswinds employees. Everyone was so genuinely interested and excited, it was contagious. I have never experienced such a consistent quality of people in one environment, it is impressive. We never thought it possible to have a flawless wedding experience. I can say for certain that from the morning till end of the day, nothing went wrong!”

The Menu

With world-class chefs cooking up a storm in the kitchen, every single meal is created as if they were only serving one guest. Their injection of quality and decorative detail onto each plate is a considerable feat, considering they are often serving up to 170 guests!

From hot and cold hors d’oeuvres like grilled tandoori chicken and baked brie canapés, guests will be thrilled with the plethora of creative bites on offer. For the main course, pick from delectable entrees such as bacon-wrapped filet mignon, grain-fed breast of chicken supreme or chicken supreme with succulent grilled tiger shrimp. Top off the feast with crème brulée cheesecake or chocolate molten lava cake – and wow your guests with a truly unforgettable meal.

Dorcas Janko declares that food was one of the highlights of her 2010 fall wedding: “Everyone raved about the food and your specialty drink. Our guests only had amazing things to say about the entire banquet!”

An equally pleased father of the bride, Ken Wharram, affirms: "Not only was the food outstanding, the serving staff was very attentive and courteous. The staff at Crosswinds did such a great job -- everything was perfect!"

For guests who may be on a restricted diet, the chefs at Crosswinds are happy to accommodate special dietary requests.

Packages and Pricing....

Crosswinds has designed their packages to give you the most flexibility in choosing how you’d like to serve your guests. By combining a variety of menu and bar options, you can easily meet the per person minimum while creating a personalized package at the same time.

This is no cookie-cutter wedding venue. The team at Crosswinds really wants to make your wedding special and help you showcase your individual style. If you require assistance with vendors, they have a list of trusted wedding experts to recommend.

Susanne Rodgers couldn’t be happier with her decision to get married at Crosswinds in the summer of 2010: “Everything was absolutely outstanding, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I really appreciate all of the help, guidance and suggestions over the last few months of planning. I will highly recommend Crosswinds to everyone I know! I had so many people come and tell me how fantastic the venue, the food and the service was!”

At the time we researched Crosswinds (April 2011), packages start at $100 per guest (plus taxes and gratuity). Practical elements such as an LCD projector, a cordless microphone/speaker system and table tea lights are included free of charge.

For golf-lovers, the wedding package also comes with four complimentary rounds of golf on Crosswinds’ impressive 18-hole championship golf course. For the bridal couple, you also get free chauffeur services on their six-seater limousine golf cart – it’s like having your own carriage to whisk you off for photos without having to hike around in your wedding dress (and heels)!
