Chris Love performs non-religious ceremonies based on faith in love itself

We first met Chris Love on The Ring's chat boards. At the time, she was busy posting advice answers on wedding planning, relationships, dealing with difficult family members and, well, you get the picture. So, why was a married woman chatting in our bridal forums? Because she could...

Chris has always found herself completely drawn to all things weddings, eventually prompting her to undertake studies to become an Officiant. "I'm a romantic. There are very few days that are as important to someone's life as the wedding day. I love chatting with brides and helping them any way I can."

Since the day Chris earned her right to pronounce you husband and wife, this woman has found her way into the hearts of local couples with a ceremony that has deep meaning, but maybe not the word, God. "I believe that a ceremony based on faith in love itself is as equally important as a religious faith-based ceremony."

A ceremony that means something

While we didn't necessarily want to debate religion, The Ring did want to sit down with Chris Love to find out why she chose to perform non-religious ceremonies. She showed us a file folder full of reasons. She explained and outlined how many different ways a ceremony could be heartfelt, meaningful, and equally legal - all without the inclusion of religion. "I wanted to focus on creating an amazing service that really means something for couples who may not be members of a church or faith."

Chris Love may wear the beautiful black Officiant robe - but her symbol is the Kanji symbol for 'Love', instead of a cross. She takes wedding ceremonies very seriously, but from a personality that is relaxed, easy going and all about who the bride and groom (or whatever the case may be) are. Weddings of Love ceremonies are based on how couples feel about each other, what they see in their future, and what saying 'I Do' really means to them.

Who you are as a couple

To make sure that together you design a ceremony that is right for you, Chris asks a few real-life and relationship-based questions of the couple in question first. She likes to get the feel for the couple's connection and who they are as people. This helps a lot when it comes time to design a ceremony that will really reflect who you are.

Favourite shades of romance...

We found Chris Love to be very refreshing, and think you will, too. When we started getting into the real details that go into her career as a wedding Officiant, Chris began recounting some her favourite past and upcoming wedding ceremony details without even a glance at her files. Chris is a romantic. But to her, romance comes in many different shades.

Chris has been involved in ceremonies for weddings of all themes, including a 'Harley' theme, a Renaissance themed wedding in front of a large stone fireplace, an outdoor wedding on an island by a gazebo, a costume themed wedding, a scuba wedding, a wedding that had a 'Smarties' colour scheme..., and the list goes on.

Chris Love also has several weddings booked for the future that are not off-the-wall. "Surprisingly, not everyone that calls me is looking for something so completely different. Most just want a meaningful ceremony that is designed for them. I'm just happy to be a part of it."

Location, location, location

Chris can perform weddings anywhere that has personal meaning for you. From the family home to the riverside, to the Renaissance Festival. You name it, Chris can help design a ceremony that will be meaningful for you.

Extras to love

Chris also offers some extras for your ceremony. She has an indoor backdrop which is a grape leaf-trimmed, Chinese-style screen. For outdoors, she has a Japanese-style wood gazebo or an arch with a decorative column for a small added touch. These are used for couples who are eloping and want a small, quiet ceremony.

"My favourite moment in a wedding is when a groom sees his bride for the first time, as she is coming towards him. When those tears glisten in his eyes, I know that no matter how uninvolved he seemed in the wedding preparations, at that moment, he is right there with us and it is time to begin," Chris told us of just one reason why she loves doing what she does.

Ceremonies range from $150 to $300, taxes included. The 'Elopement Ceremony Package' ($150) includes Chris' services for your basic wedding ceremony at her location and a printed copy of your ceremony. The 'Community Ceremony Package' ($300) includes a consultation with Chris, her services for your wedding ceremony and unlimited email guidance. The 'Wedding Vow Renewal Ceremony Package' ($250) includes a consultation with Chris, her services for your vow renewal ceremony and unlimited email guidance. A one hour wedding rehearsal is $120.
