Even after 500+ Kitchener-Waterloo and area weddings, after countless commercial and portrait photo shoots, after building up an obviously large base of brides who love (uh, LOVE!) Anne Edgar, this professional photographer says she’ll never tire of the art of wedding photography. “I still love it! I love the people… I love flipping through the images... I love that every year there’s something new and exciting to learn about… But really, mostly, it’s the people.”
With a hybrid version of portrait style photography and photojournalism, Anne Edgar uses a fine arts background and one very impressive portfolio, to go about capturing memories and personalities on camera. Anne Edgar is the kind of photographer you want by your side on your wedding day. Her pictures are all about capturing your emotions and getting those shots that truly show off your personality. The kind of shots that you can look back on in years and think, " that is so us".
Her brides love her. We love her. And here’s why…
Personally Speaking...
It's a combination of factors that has made Anne Edgar a stand out photographer in the KW area. She's had some incredible education and hands on training, including a fine arts degree from the University of Toronto and Sheridan College, as well as a diploma in photography from Humber College and photography courses from Ryerson University. She has a fantastic background in commercial photography, "I have had great shoots with some leading companies!" Not to mention the hundreds of weddings she's shot (approximately 525 weddings and counting!). She has photographed weddings for other professional photographers and wedding experts, local and national media personalities, and even some celebrity weddings!
All of these factors play a part in Anne's popularity with local brides. Leslie Kokavec recently worked with Anne at her January 2011 wedding, "She truly captured the heart and soul of the day. I can't tell you how many times people have looked at our photos and commented on how alive everything feels. The album tells our wedding story so perfectly and I have no doubt that as a result, we will be able to remember all of the details of that day for years to come."
And after so many weddings, she still loves it as much as she did the day she started, "Every year there’s something new and exciting; whether it’s technology innovation or new software, a change in media, a shift in style... the changes in the industry help keep my job challenging and fun. But really, it’s about the people.”
Anne is thrilled to announce three new, hand-picked members to her team. Each photographer is available as a principal or second shooter on your wedding day, offering the same great packages, with different price points depending on their experience.
Photography style that stands out on its own
When we asked Anne’s past brides to describe her photography style, their answer was almost unanimously “amazing!” And if you’ve ever browsed her work (see right), you’ll know what they’re talking about.
On a more technical level though, Anne describes her wedding photography style as 'hybrid photojournalistic' with a mix of both naturally occurring moments and skillful poses. "It’s about controlling many elements of an image (the location, the lighting, the angles…) and then drawing out the personalities of the subjects, encouraging movement (running, jumping, spinning, splashing) and spontaneous emotion. The result is always fabulous, even for people who don't think they are capable of being natural in front of the camera.
She includes some posed shots, so that you get all those must-have images. The rings, the family groupings, the wedding party, and so on. Thanks to her fresh approach, these never feel stiff or contrived. "It's all about showing relationships, through the small details - the hands, the authenticity of the smiles, the body language. Many people rave about these 'candid' shots, never realizing that they were, in fact, posed shots!"
Julie and Luke Moore were married June 2010 and told us that Anne made them feel beautiful and comfortable, all while complimenting them and reassuring them that the photos would be incredible. "And they were!" they add. "Anne was creative and intuitive with every shot... She always remembered to ask for our input, had time to use her spontaneous ideas, and had us back at our reception on time. I'm amazed to see the moments she captured... we hadn't even known she was taking certain pictures, or that she was in certain places, but discretely and respectfully, she got so many important moments for us."
It's the candid shots that are Anne's signature. Throughout the day, Anne will be busy documenting all those informal moments that truly capture the essence of your wedding. When you browse through your album in the years to come, these are the images that are guaranteed to put a smile on your face and bring back a flood of memories.
Janice and David Bruinsma were married in Elora, Ontario and had Anne photograph their big day. "The biggest reason we chose Anne was because she was personable," they told us. "I felt like she would fit in with our wedding party. I liked the way she interacted with the entire wedding party - making people laugh and feel comfortable. The experience was great, she was lots of fun and our pictures are beautiful."
Low, natural light
Shooting in difficult lighting situations is not for the inexperienced! Candle light ceremonies, romantic & dim receptions are beautiful, and difficult to photograph. Anne has spent countless hours photographing in these lighting situations, and with the combination of years of experience, and top notch camera & lighting equipment, she is able to shoot the kind of photos that leave others asking - 'How did you get that shot?' "One comment I hear again & again from clients & other photographers alike, is that they love the quality of the light in my images. It is no accident, I do work very hard to achieve that warm, flattering light in my images. Great photos achieve about 90% of their greatness because of great light!"
Getting the shots you love & having fun doing it
Anne says part of what she loves so much about her work is the people she gets to interact with. She tends to shoot couples that are sweet, down to earth, who want their wedding to focus on a celebration with family and friends.
"I find that most of my couples are real and not trying to be something that they're not. They are not looking to be posed like angry fashion models, they just want to have fun & look beautiful, and I love being able to give them great photos that reflect that."
And fun is one of the most important parts of Anne's philosophy. She wants couples to truly enjoy themselves all day on their wedding day, "the time spent doing the photos should be part of the celebration, part of the joy of the day. When the wedding party laughs through photo session, the photos are authentic, natural & spectacular!"
For Anne, focusing on your personal style is another crucial part in capturing incredible images. She isn't going to push you to take pictures that you aren't comfortable with- she really wants it to be able your personality so that you have a great time and feel completely comfortable on your wedding day. "I want to focus on the emotions, who they are, their personalities. I'm not looking to shoot fashion models. It's about real people that are celebrating one of the milestones in their lives."
Unmarked, high-res images a favourite with brides
One of our favourite things about Anne Edgar Photography is that you're going to get beautifully & creatively edited, full resolution, unmarked images. That means that every image taken at your wedding is yours to use as you like, be it prints at your own lab, do it yourself albums, wall paper for your monitor or wall paper for your living room. And Anne makes it easy to share those fabulous images with your friends & family, by providing an online gallery where you can access and download your photos from your private gallery.
Because the photos are uploaded as full res images, your friends & family can download, print poster size images, and even order great products (think tshirts, iphone covers...) right from your web gallery. And post them to your Facebook profile with just a click. "it's all about easy access, easy sharing. The photos are yours, we want you to show them off, and we make it easy for you to do so!"
Favourite Things
- Anne will post teaser photos on facebook as she edits so clients get to see favs as early as the day after the wedding!
-The online gallery is often ready for clients to view while still on their honeymoon
-The web gallery contains full size images, not thumbnails. It truly makes for convenient access and sharing - think - Mother-in-law never needing to bug you for a single image, she can simply download the entire gallery, and she is good to go! No extra fees, no orders to place...no follow up calls ..."when will the photos be ready..."
-Getting to walk away with high resolution images
-Anne is all about real people - real couples. That’s probably why brides and grooms have so much fun during their photo shoots (and why her images are so fabulous).
Mix & Match
There's no such thing as a standard package when you hire Anne. She offers three packages to start with, and then works with each couple to customize the package to fit their wedding day. Each one is custom designed to give you exactly what you want and to fit within your budget. You can speak with Anne to request any unique requirements, and check out her website for up-to-date package details, including special offers in the promo section. Whatever you decide to go with, Anne says that all packages include high res images on DVD (sans watermark). "You can take the disc to any quality lab you like,” says Anne. “I am happy to make recommendations as to the better labs, and the reasons you'll be glad you chose them." Anne's in-house lab is also available for your use, and guarantees the best results for clients who choose this route.
Anne offers rich, dramatic black and white, romantic sepia tints, gorgeous full colour images, and everything in between. David and Janice were pleased with the range of photos they received from their wedding day, "It was a great combination of family shots, and more spontaneous fun shots. She incorporated any ideas I had and made sure to get all the photos I had asked for."
Anne's mastery of Photoshop and her artistic nature combine to produce images that are memorable. A large selection of albums is available in a range of styles from traditional to the latest and greatest. Including her Signatures Album, which incorporates your engagement photos with space for your wedding guests to leave their wedding wishes and signatures – the perfect guest book. Anne also recently added Epoca albums from Italy to her list of products, along with many other album choices to suit your personal style.
When it comes to having custom enlargements done, Anne supervises all the printing in her in-house lab. She'll make sure that each enlargement is 'picture perfect' - retouched to ensure that not only are you satisfied with your images, you love every single one.
"When we found Anne, we felt that her prices were very reasonable," say Julie and Luke. "When it was time to edit photos, Anne did anything we asked of her, at no additional cost." They add that they've recommended Anne to everyone they know, saying that her photos went above and beyond. "We look at our photos and the beauty we felt around us that day transcends through her photographs and brings to life the tiny details of an incredible day. Many people tell us her photos look like magazine ads and that she can captured simple moments and natural beauty unlike any other photos they've seen... We're so grateful we have her artistry to keep our day close to hearts forever."
Bigger is better
Anne says her "bigger is better" package is the most popular because it's a great value that includes an entire day of coverage. You'll get photos of you and your girls getting ready, bridal portraits, coverage of the guys before your wedding, the ceremony, as well as candid's, formals, family portraits and reception coverage up to and including the first party dances. There are also tons of extras like custom thank-you cards designs and a $300 credit towards a custom designed wedding album. If you're looking for the ultimate photography package, this is it!
And while brides tend to love "bigger is better", Anne also has smaller packages starting at $2200 with tons of shooting time. Plus, every package includes an engagement shoot with Anne (sweet!).
Putting your day in print
If you're looking for a keepsake for your photos, Anne offers custom designed wedding albums from leading album designers around the world, including Italy, Japan and Los Angeles. Depending on the album you pick, you'll spend between $1000 and $2000. What an incredible way to treasure your photos forever!
For clients looking to make their own albums, Anne offers tips, album company referrals, and happily offers to let you 'borrow' her favourite page designs. You can even take one of Anne's Photoshop courses if you want to take it to a higher level, with tips on retouching, adding text and more.

In addition, Anne usually has a co-op student and / or intern helping her out on the day of your wedding. Second shooters cost between $200 and $400, depending on their experience, co-op students and interns are n/c!

Leslie Kokavec can't say enough about her experience with Anne, "She is an incredibly organized and knowledgeable photographer. She had the whole wedding party laughing and smiling through the entire day which translated into a collection of amazing and memorable photos. "
