From providing music as you walk down the aisle, to serenading guests at dinner, and playing the perfect song for that perfect first dance, a DJ plays a huge part in the wedding day. So when it came time to interview Jasmyn Lancinger, owner and one of a few disc jockeys at Kitchener-based Olympic Sound, it was easy to see why brides were raving over the incredible team of DJs at Olympic Sound.
The Olympic Sound team not only acknowledges the importance of the role your DJ plays on the wedding day, but their DJs know how to direct a great stag & doe too. And according to their loyal brides, they’re the first to dig in and help in any way they can, for a truly seamless wedding day.
So, armed with tons of personality, hands-on experience, and high tech equipment, the Olympic Sound DJs are certainly some of our brides’ favourite DJs to check out in The Ring. Let us explain…
Based out of Kitchener and serving southern Ontario, Olympic Sound sprung up in the summer of 2002. Initially a small—if risky—endeavor, the project survived on the support of friends and family who were willing to give it a shot. And now, the better part of a decade, hundreds of gigs, thousands of smiling people, millions of songs and a lifetime of memories later, this little DJ company has grown to take on a life of its own.
Under the guidance of owner and head DJ, Jasmyn Lancinger, their mission is to bring the highest level of professionalism along with a completely personalized experience. The team at Olympic Sound believes that a good DJ does more than just show up and play tunes.
Dayna Renaud says that when she met with Jasmyn to discuss being the DJ at her March wedding, she immediately knew that the Olympic Sound team would help create the wedding reception that Dayna and her husband dreamed of. “They were so easy to talk to and had great ideas and organization right from our first email,” Dayna tells us. She adds that the Olympic Sound style was “trendy, hip, organized, accountable, and appropriate to the guests and atmosphere of the wedding.”
With a steady increase in business over the years, Olympic Sound has expanded to include a small team of fully trained, professional experts in their field- each with a variety of experiences and expertise. For example, DJs Eric and Neil are technical experts (think: incredible remixes and beat mixing at your reception!). On the other hand, the ladies on the team bring a more feminine touch to the event and are great at reading the mood and emotions of the crowd.
No matter which Olympic Sound team member DJs at your event, you can expect someone who is energetic, helpful (as past clients told The Ring, it’s not uncommon to find them helping the venue staff clear an area for the dance floor) and comes dressed perfectly for your event.
And most importantly, the Olympic Sound DJs truly love what they do. Says Jasmyn, “We love pumping up the party and making sure that everyone is having a great time. It’s very rewarding and we love it.”
Past bride Rebecca Leis says she would recommend Olympic Sound “in a heartbeat.” In fact, Rebecca has hired Olympic Sound three times in the past five years, “They continue to exceed our expectations time and time again! We booked Jasmyn for our Stag & Doe and after we chatted with her for a bit, we were hooked and booked her for our wedding too! At the most recent function, Neil was our DJ… he was also fabulous and was a fantastic MC! Neil was fun, down to earth and really got the crowd going. We would definitely use him again as well!”
While Olympic Sound’s main focus is weddings, they also offer DJ services for the community at corporate events and functions, Christmas parties, fundraisers and charity events for some notable clients. They even do school dances for grades ranging from kindergarten to university because they, “love the young crowd and the energy they bring to the dance floor.” Whatever the event may be, you can be assured that the Olympic Sound DJs will enjoy it thoroughly, “We love being able to participate and make a contribution to the events that are so important and personal to clients and friends.”
No need to worry about inadequate sound or the wrong music being played; Olympic Sound boasts of playing a “blend of continuous music by your favourite artists on our professional and reliable sound system.” This includes a music library that spans generations and various styles to please all guests.
There is never a dull moment at a wedding with someone from Olympic Sound as the DJ, and Miranda Bilotta, who had Olympic Sound provide the music for her January wedding ceremony, dinner and dance, could not agree more. “Jasmyn really made the day come together and was very organized,” says Miranda. “She played exactly what we wanted and came up with suggestions to make each part of the day flow perfectly.” Miranda describes Jasmyn as “professional, yet really fun and outgoing. Olympic Sound has a great variety of music that would suit every style you could imagine, and they really know how to keep a crowd going.”
The team at Olympic Sound are very accessible for contact, and will promptly returns messages, which is important in the wedding industry. How interactive they are at your wedding is up to the bride and groom – they can make their presence known, or be virtually invisible. Throughout the whole planning process, Miranda says that the Olympic Sound team was extremely professional and organized. “They made us feel really comfortable, like hanging out with a friend who happens to ‘know their stuff’ about music and the whole wedding industry. They are really outgoing and fun… They were available up until the day of the wedding through phone and email… And met with us to make sure they had everything just right for the big day.”
Our absolute favourite option at Olympic Sound is the Mini-Studio Photobooth. The difference with this photobooth is that it is run by a real photographer. The team at Olympic Sound explains, “There are no foot pedals, no timers — just a fun, friendly photographer to interact with your guests and snap the shutter at just the right moment to capture the crazy. It’s like stepping into your own studio — anything goes, and anything can happen.”
The Mini-Studio Photobooth uses real studio lighting and professional DSLR cameras, making it an ideal keepsake option for albums, enlargements, posters, and of course: Facebook. We LOVE this idea
Olympic Sound also offers DJ services for stag & does at a discounted price, and much like the wedding, their involvement can be minute or monumental depending on what the couple wants. They take requests, and can host interactive games such as crown and anchor and the toonie toss, while keeping in mind the goal to have fun and raise money. The Olympic Sound DJs say that they love to create a fun party so that the guests will stay and the bride and groom will turn a profit! They also like to get to know the crowd, and love seeing them again at the wedding!
