Jennifer Millett was a Fashion Design student when she met Michael Edwards in the summer of 2006. He was working in the Georgian Bay area at the time, which is where Jenn grew up. They immediately hit it off, taking refuge in how compatible they were together, and how easy it was to make each other laugh. Six months later, Jenn moved to London to be with Mike and finish her Degree. Just a few months after that, the couple admitted they knew that this was forever. They remember, “We both felt we would spend the rest of our lives together.”
Mike had a ring custom made by Bob Burke Jewellery in London and one evening in June 2008, after they shared a romantic dinner together, Mike got down on one knee and asked Jenn to marry him. She, without a doubt, said yes.
The date was set for September 5, 2009, the wedding party was chosen (a collection of their closest friends), and the invitations were sent.
Jenn used her passion for design, style and glam to perfect countless details of the wedding. The theme was 1930s Old Hollywood Glamour (think Greta Garbo and Clark Gable) with the classic black and ivory colour scheme and an added bold statement of deep purple.
Jenn had fallen in love with the fashion and luxury of the 1930s era while doing costume history research for school. “As we go through another recession, we felt the theme fit perfect with all the glamour and sparkle,” the couple told us. “We wanted our guests to ‘escape’ for the evening and enjoy a wonderful production. We wanted something that was formal and classic and the subtle retro undertones helped us achieve the fabulous look.”
The stationery, including invitations and programs, were ivory with a black damask pattern and menus were printed on a translucent vellum paper – all designed and assembled by the bride and groom.
Details like flowers and accessories also contributed to the overall theme. Gammage Flowers created gorgeous bouquets for the ladies. Jenn’s was all shades of purples with crystal strands and purple feathers. She says she wanted the colour to “pop” off her ivory dress in the photos – which it certainly did! Boutonnières were single orchids with feathers and crystals – white for the groomsmen and purple for the groom. Jenn’s gown was Italian satin with a dropped waist and full ball gown skirt. It was accented with elaborate embroidery embellished with crystals and pearls, which Jenn says sparkled under the lights.
Among friends and family, Jenn is known for always being classy. She loves to dress up – especially in heels. So, of course, her wedding was no different! Jenn’s heels were fun but elegant in pink with tulle, rhinestones and sparkles - from Betsey Johnson. Even her accessories matched the theme as she donned vintage pearl drop earrings, a custom made pearl and crystal comb and a French net veil that was accented with rhinestones and that added glamorous drama to every wedding photo.
