Get Inspired! A Recently Married Couple's Story
Andrea Dlouhy & Adam Ferrett
How we met: Working abroad
Engaged: March 25, 2008
Married: May 16, 2009
Week of the wedding… My husband is from England so we made several trips to the
airport to pick up his family, and Adam had his stag night which was a great success.
Freaking out… About everyone arriving on time and safely with so many guests from
overseas; but luckily everything worked out perfectly!
Planning… We both worked hard at all the planning. Ultimately, we had to hand over our day to our coordinator, Ashley, who was fantastic. All that mattered was that at the end of the day Adam and I were married!
Wedding rehearsal story… What a blast! We had a great time joking around and
making fun of each other and ourselves.
Getting ready… Was so much fun and calming. I had a blast at the hair salon with my bridesmaids and man of honour. We had breakfast and Tim Horton's at home before the photographers arrived. My groom was at our friend's house having breakfast and enjoyed his football team winning the championship.
Our people… Amazing! My man of honour was my best friend from grade school, Mark. He is hilarious and has been there for me since grade four, so my choice was obvious for that role. My bridesmaids were both friends from college, Laurie and Ioana. I am lucky to live close to Laurie now, and Ioana came in from Chicago to be a part of my day. Adam's best man was Mike, his best mate from concert orchestra, and his groomsman was Richard, his brother-in-law and friend. My third bridesmaid is Amy, my roommate from my cruise ship days who will be with me in England for our second wedding reception next weekend.
Before ceremony thoughts… This is the most amazing day! Don't trip down the aisle, and smile. Adam was a bit nervous but relaxed as soon as we joined hands together.
Ceremony story… Amazing and moving. Our pastor was funny and clever and gave us some great advice. We had a great duet from my friends from college and we both made it through our vows without crying. So memorable!
Photo shoot story… So much fun! We took photos at the hotel first. The Delta London Armouries is a classic and historical site with amazing spots for photos. We were then lucky that the weather went our way to go downtown to the courthouse for some classic shots outside of one of London's oldest buildings.
Reception look was… Perfect. What an amazing job the hotel staff did. Service was amazing and the decorations were beautiful. It was so much fun to watch all of our family and friends have a blast and enjoy themselves, even if they didn't know each other. We also had a great time listening to our guests sing show tunes and James Bond themes to get us to kiss.
Speeches were… Hilarious and moving. Mike, our best man, told some great stories about Adam, and our parents said some wonderful loving words as well. Of course, humour was key in all of the speeches. Classic.
Reception was… Fun and not long enough. We had a beautiful first dance to "You & I" by Michael Bublé, and my dance with my Dad to "Wonderful World" was unforgettable. I ordered a classic popcorn machine, which everyone seemed to enjoy. Our cupcake cake was delicious and beautiful. We also split the music between a DJ and a jazz quartet featuring my dear friend Scott who flew in from England to play piano and sing for us. Such wonderful personal touches for our day.
Things that went wrong… Nothing. Honestly, we keep saying the only flaw was that there wasn't one. We had a perfect day with people we love.
Things that made us laugh… Our nieces, who are both under four years old, partied into the night, and Adam's Great Aunt, who is almost 90, accidentally ordered some x-rated movies on her TV without realizing it.
My gown, hair and make-up… Perfection. My dress was a crinkle taffeta a-line strapless number I picked at first glance. My hair was done by my friend Corrine, and make-up by another friend Jennifer, both from Bravura Salon in London. I felt like a princess and truly a beautiful bride.
The groom looked… Outstanding, breathtaking, gorgeous, handsome and happy. I will never forget seeing him for the first time from the back of the room.
Overall, the day was… Amazing and unforgettable. Thank you to so many people for helping to make our day the most perfect and wonderful time of our lives. I can't imagine starting our lives together any other way. Truly, everyone we love and admire was in one room sharing in our joy. Nothing could be better.
