Ku'r Salon and Spa

Ku’r is the cure for all of your wedding day salon and spa needs

The goal of Ku’r Salon and Spa’s is to make sure you’re feeling and looking fabulous on the morning of your wedding day. This Doon South Drive (Kitchener) spa is a one-stop shop for all of your beauty needs, from head to toe.

Owners, Taline and Katrina, and their team of expert stylists and aestheticians work from the inside out, treating brides and their wedding parties to massages, facials, manicures, pedicures, make-up and hair design. Ku’r caters to brides by offering bridal discounts, trials and customized packages that make planning a wedding easier.

With senior level stylists, a mission of achieving customer service and satisfaction, and talk of having the “best facial and pedicure in town”, it’s obvious that, on the wedding day, it’s all about you and your wedding party. We sat down with Taline and Katrina in their gorgeous salon and spa to find out what brides will love most about Ku’r Salon & Spa. Here’s what you’ll want to know…

Personally speaking…

Ku’r (pronounced cure) opened their doors April 21st 2008, offering the Doon South area their own full service salon and spa.

Taline and Katrina are not just the owners of the Ku’r but key stylists and estheticians as well. Taline often meets with the brides and coordinates the wedding party’s needs, then either Taline or Katrina is present on the wedding day

Katrina, the Senior Esthetician, brings over fifteen years of industry experience to the salon, having previously worked for one of the top salon and spas in Canada. “Her expertise in skin, laser, nails, and make-up is definitely an asset to the community and to our beautiful brides,” explains Taline. Katrina trains the staff and works day-to-day with clients as well.

Taline also has fifteen years’ experience and is relies on past business knowledge to know what is needed to successfully run a salon and spa. Both ladies have their aesthetician, laser hair removal and microdermabrasion certifications. “We are trained in everything you can think of under the sun,” says Katrina.

Catering to brides…

At Ku’r, all of the staff work together on the bridal party’s services. “Just seeing everyone’s happy face when they leave” is what Taline says makes coming in to work every day worthwhile. That’s one reason why Taline thinks brides choose Ku’r, is because they “deliver what we promise.”

Sara used Ku’r for her trial and wedding day hair and make-up, pedicure, groom’s (reluctant) MANicure and pre-wedding massages and says she would “definitely recommend Ku’r to anyone getting married. The staff is great and personable, and there are just so many services that you can have done, all in one spot. That is very convenient for bridal parties.”

Most couples who visit Ku’r are down to earth, excited and eager, but since every bride is different, Ku’r doesn’t offer a specific bridal package; each bride can design something that’s unique to her.

Katrina adds that Ku’r pays “attention to the make-up as well. We have a specific floor just for make-up because the final touch on the bride is the most important part!” One of the most popular new additions to their service menu is airbrushed make-up. Ring brides are loving the flawless photo finish that lasts the day. Of course Ku’r also offers eye lash extensions.

Elizabeth, who booked Ku’r for her wedding, agrees that everyone at Ku’r was “super friendly” and accommodating to her, her six bridesmaids and her mother on the day of her wedding. “We were all able to be pampered at the same time,” she says. “All the girls at the salon were busy working away… It was a really great experience.”

If you’re looking for an alternative to the traditional bachelorette or shower, consider hosting an event at Ku’r for the ladies in your wedding party. Taline notes “Many brides, bridesmaids and mothers are electing to have a pre-wedding event at the spa… women are choosing to have mini-showers or bachelorettes that include spa services.”

Ku’r understands that not every bride is 22 and they endeavour to serve the beauty needs of not just the bride but her entire wedding party including the mothers. Ku’r also offers medically supervised treatments such as Botox and fillers as well. Fillers such as Selphyl can help fill not just fine lines but also acne scars and other scars.

Going above and beyond just simple up-dos, Ku’r also has an extensive line of hair jewellery for brides and bridesmaids. “We’ll often find that brides and bridesmaids will be looking for or wishing for a little something extra for their hair when their up-do is complete. We have a stock of beautiful hair jewelry to enhance your up-do on hand. This gives us the flexibility to incorporate last minute changes.” Hair extensions are also available as well from Great Lengths, who use real human hair for a more realistic look. “Anyone can have long hair, or just a long look.”

Prices & discounts…

Since each bride’s style varies, so too do the prices for individual wedding services offered at Ku’r. Even so, Katrina says they can accommodate every budget. “We have different levels of aestheticians and hair stylists.” And, as per their menu, the price structure reflects a level system and their service providers’ prices reflect their experience, level of education, and personal growth.

“For example,” says Taline, “we can do an up-do for a bride at $99. We can get a manicure at $34, or a full set up gel nails at $67. Makeup for the bride is $55 plus $40 to add airbrushing. Up-do’s for the girls in your wedding party can range from $51 to $81, with make-up at $45. (Plus appropriate tax and gratuities at the discretion of the client.)

For the best taste of what a bride can find at Ku’r, you’ll want to check out THE ULTIMATE BRIDAL PACKAGE ($399). With this package, you begin (roughly three months before your wedding day) with a make-up trial and up-do hair trial. This is so critical to getting the look you’re dreaming of for your wedding. About two weeks before the wedding, you’ll be treated to a Microdermabrasion treatment, which will help give your skin that special glow that will shine through as you walk down the aisle and as you smile for the camera. Then one week before the wedding, it’s all about the nails, so you’ll have Ku’r Salon and Spa’s signature Journey Manicure and Pedicure.

Elizabeth would recommend Ku’r Salon & Spa “not just for weddings, but also for other spa and salon needs” She says that Ku’r’s prices were slightly less than everywhere else in the city and that they fit within her (and her bridesmaids’) budgets. Most importantly, she remembers that everyone looked gorgeous, “so it was definitely worth it.”

Ku’r offers tons of gifts and discounts which appeals to many budget-savvy brides. “Everyone will receive a coupon book at their first appointment full of money saving coupons that can be used on their next visit or for the wedding day,” explains Taline.

For example, Ku’r offers 20% Off Facial Services coupons for the bride, and 20% Off the Purchase of a Salon Quality Make-up Product (during the make-up consultation). There’s even a coupon for a Free Journey Manicure (an organic manicure with a harmonizing soak, affirming scrub masque, deep moisturizing lotion and paraffin treatment that starts at $39) when you book a Journey Pedicure, up-do and make-up application. In addition, the Mother of the Bride can enjoy 10% Off Any 1 Spa or Salon Service. All of the coupons are valid for one to two weeks prior to the wedding, have no cash value and must be used on services or products of $20 value or more before taxes.

Whether you’re relaxing before the wedding day with a massage, primping and styling on the day of, or having a party with your bridesmaids, Taline says that Ku’r’s philosophy is to offer “Spa services to help you take care of your total inner relaxation, then take care of making sure you look gorgeous on the outside.”

I booked Ku'r after reading The Wedding Ring review. What Immediately impressed me was the amount of pictures they have on the Ku'r website showcasing their work. Few salons offer this bragging right online, and Ku'r had every reason to!!! The girls there did an incredible job on me and my girls' hair and makeup. Juanita was so easy to work with, and truly gets excited WITH you as she works her magic on your hair. Katrina's makeup job was flawless. My result on the day of my wedding was exactly what I had hoped - elegant and classy with just enough spice to take me into the night time. The staff are very attentive and open to suggestions, but when left to their own devices also deliver incredible results. Also, having been part of weddings where hair and makeup inevitably pushes things back to delay the ceremony, Ku'r was a FIRST I've seen for having us all finished RIGHT on time (15 minutes early even!), providing drinks and snacks to tide us over. Their heavenly cappuccino was a life-saver the morning of my wedding! When us girls walked out of the salon to the limo we all felt like a million bucks. The flower girl's hair even survived cartwheels on the dance floor!! Thanks ladies!!
