Select Service Caterers provided the meal, which fit nicely into Laura and Steve’s theme – it was a collection of things they liked that formed a sort of upscale barbeque. Guests enjoyed mini ‘mac and cheese’ appetizers, giant shrimp, stuffed tomatoes and sausage rolls to start, followed by a dinner of watermelon and blueberry salad, prime rib burgers, crispy potato wedges, pasta salad, rice salad, coleslaw and every possible burger topping you could imagine (including pulled pork). The meal was topped off with a light fruit mousse. Laura says her only wedding regret is that she couldn't finish her burger.

Laura and Steve had their friend, Josella, make a blueberry cheesecake in lieu of a traditional wedding cake, and they set out a sweet table later in the evening with mini cheesecakes, cake pops, milk & cookie shots, lemon-lime tarts and tons of other delectable goodies.

One of the biggest selling features of Hauser Hall for Laura and Steve was that they allow you to bring in your own alcohol (without charging a corkage fee). Since both Laura and Steve used to work for the LCBO, having good, local beer was important to them. So, to go with their barbeque menu, they decided to have beer on the tables instead of wine. “We went to the Lion Brewery in Waterloo and chose a lager and a Bavarian lager, which we bottled ourselves. They also purchased some St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout and designed labels for the three varieties: Little Dog Lager, Big Dog Bavarian and Ugly Dog Stout. “It was a cool way to incorporate our dog into the day too, since she appeared on the Little Dog Lager label,” add Laura and Steve.

For cocktail hour, the couple had three different punches: Limey Collins (a Tom Collins with limeaid), John Daly (an Arnold Palmer with vodka) and non-alcoholic raspberry lemonade. Since Laura's family is from Newfoundland, punch was served in mason jars so that cocktail hour would feel like a big kitchen party.
