DESIGN PALETTE: peacock feathers
From the Design Palettes feature in the Fall/Winter 2010 issue of The Wedding Ring Magazine
Collaborating with decorators, Mary Bruce of Do it in Style and Maria Robertson of M&R Weddings, we put together this gorgeous design palette based on the colour and vibrance of the male peacock feather. The result is a rich, modern style.

The best way to create your dream wedding theme is to start with a design palette or inspiration board - a collection of colours or items that inspire you. Your palette will represent the basis of all the design decisions to come. In this design palette, the team at The Ring (and two expert decorators), collaborated on a design inspired entirely by the vibrance of peacock feathers.
The centrepiece, set in an Eiffle Tower-style vase, incorporates soft, breezy feathers in lavender, teal, gold and brown, with peacock feathers strewn throughout. One or two touches of gold (no more, or it’ll be overkill) catch the light and add a bit more drama. Rich, silk fabrics in purple and brown contrast the softness of the feathers and create a stunning backdrop. The backdrop is then accented with the occasional accessory, like these blue, feathery flowers and butterflies.
A lush, deep teal table overlay with a contemporary square pattern gives contrast and style. Square crystal candle holders tie in with the lines of the overlay. A scattering of pink and purple diamond and circle shaped crystals pick up and play with the purples throughout the look.
(MORE) IDEAS: Top your cake with peacock feathers, use this palette to choose your bridesmaids’ gowns, have a damask created for your stationery that incorporates feathers... With so many colours, it’s easy to carry this palette through from beginning to end.
