brantford weddings, fall weddings, fall wedding themeAfter a seven year relationship that began as a high school romance, Rachel Montgomery, a CHCH news writer, and Jonathan Schrader, an Electrical Engineer Technologist, were married in October 2009 in Brantford Ontario. They say they knew from the beginning that their relationship was for keeps. Even though she let Jonathan wait a while before hearing the words for himself, Rachel admits she knew almost right away that he was the one. "We knew long before our wedding day that wanted to be with each other forever."

Rachel and Jonathan wanted their wedding to be unique, so they decided to get creative with it, while incorporating family and friends in every way they could.

To begin with, Jonathan's father is a Pastor, giving the couple the opportunity to honour him by being the officiant of their wedding ceremony.

So Jeles Photography, brantford wedding storyPhotographer, Tara Jeles of So Jeles Photography said she couldn't help it, "I had the song 'Son of a preacher man' in my head all day!"

To add good luck in love and life, an American penny was taped to the bottom of the bride's shoe. The penny was American - because it's worth more, of course!

Rachel and Jonathan's wedding colour was red - with red apples playing a big part of the day. Rachel told The Wedding Ring that fall has always been their favourite season. "I love the vibrant colours of the season (and apples), so that's how we came up with the red. Everything just seemed to fall into place after that!"

The bridesmaids wore gowns in 'apple red' and the photos were taken at an apple orchard - a location that Rachel was determined to get to on their wedding day. "Not only was it our theme, but Jon and I often went apple picking together in the fall, and that stemmed from me doing it every year with my family growing up... My family and I were there the week before getting apples for the centrepieces, and my sister and I both said how neat we thought pictures taken there would look. I knew Tara [Jeles] would be able to capture some really unique shots, so I was happy we made it there."

One of our favourite photos was this sweet one (below) where Tara caught Jonathan and Rachel kissing between rows of apple trees. The shot was romantic and moody thanks to the rain that had just begun to pour down in the orchard.

They actually had several different outdoor locations for photos, including the grounds of their reception location - Brantford Golf & Country Club. That's where their good luck indeed paid off; the bride and groom spotted a rainbow and shared a moment on camera beneath it. "The weather, as odd as it was, cooperated with us... If it hadn't rained, we never would have had a rainbow. I don't know too many brides and grooms who get a rainbow on their wedding day!"

For favours, the bride and groom gave each guest a candy apple, done by Denise Lockey, owner of the Olde Tyme Kettle Kitchen stores in St. Jacobs and Cambridge. "One of their family members had drawn tiny apples on all of the place cards," Tara remembered..

There were no annoying clinking glasses at this couple's reception. Their guests had to earn their kiss by hula hooping in front of the entire room. Tara has never seen so many people eager to get up and try it. "It was hilarious!"

It's obvious that all Rachel and Jonathan needed to ensure their perfect day, was some creativity, plenty of family and friends, a promise to love forever and a good luck charm here and there. Rachel admitted to The Ring that she wasn't sure if she could pinpoint one thing that she loved the most about her wedding day. "We were just so happy to finally be married. It truly felt like a perfect day."
