TOPIC: How did you find your photographer?

How did you find your photographer? 2 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 1
I was having a conversation with a client about how she'd heard about my services. And it got me wondering: what's the most popular way that couples find their wedding photographer? Is it through a friend's recommendation? A wedding site like The Wedding Ring? Google? A magazine?

How did you find your photographer? Or, how are you going about looking for one?

Just curious!

We found our photographer from our cake place, my fiance was wandering around the store when he came across a photo-book that our photographer had put there. But we've also had many many many referrals too, someone always knew someone else who's a photographer, and then there's certain not a lack of advertisements and websites to browse through. It was actually a very painful process to narrow down the choices, mainly because we were extremely particular! But our top 2 were ones we found ourselves that we had accidentally stumbled upon while we were out and about.

We found our photographer through a friend of ours. He has just started being a photographer and it is just natural to him. He did our friends wedding pics and I was in love with them because they were so natural. Fh and I both hate posed pics and since we both loved the wedding pics we didn't care how much he cost we just wanted him. He has become very busy and it is all word of mouth because he just got a website up and going. We had our e pics just done and I am in love with them. Well the couple I have seen.
So after all that we ewnt with word of mouth and love of pics )
Side note: we could have had FH cousin do pics for free....But as I said Posed pics= no good for us! And even for free that costs to much:P

Thanks everybody! Your answers were basically what I expected -- word of mouth is sooo important in the wedding business. That's why I love The Wedding Ring's reviews - they're chock full of testimonials for people looking for other couples' raves.
Remember: you can (and should) always ask your wedding vendors for references, whether they're photographers, officiants, caterers. Don't be shy! Ask for them and a reputable vendor should be able to provide several. It's just another sign that you're working with a true professional if they have these available.
Happy wedding planning!

Which shows did you find useful? I've only planned on the Total Wedding Show so far. Hopefully I can cross a whole lot of my list at once.
