Hey Ladies,

So I've been scanning ppls e-pics and I always look at mine and I'm less than photogentic. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on how I could practice. I know it sounds silly but some pictures i'm like LOVE and others i'm like EWW.

Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Cheers!

Do you mean when you are having your photographer take your e-pics and wedding pics? I think any good photographer will give you good direction and make you feel comfortable and that will shine through in your pics. Have fun

Absolutely! Your photographer should be able to help.
I always think that the *best* pictures of people are where they are legitimately laughing and smiling.... as opposed to the forced "Say Cheese" kind of smiles. When I shoot engagement or wedding photos, I have a nice lonnnnng lens so I can be super far away from the couple. I just tell them to go over somewhere by themselves and have a little chat with each other. Inevitably, either from nervousness or excitement, they begin giggling and smiling with each other naturally! And they don't realize I'm snapping a million pictures of their quiet moment alone. This one is a great example of a couple who didn't know they were being photographed with my little trick...

Other times, I will use general suggestions to couples to get the right 'look'. Sometimes I say things like "relax your face" or "look over in this area". But I try not to pose people too much in that way. I like things to look natural so the real "you" comes through!
Talk it over with your photographer and tell them your worries! EVERYONE thinks they're not photogenic, but you'd be surprised what a good photographer can do!
Good luck!

This is the response I got back from my photographer:

So practicing with a camera might help and getting in touch with what it is that you don't like when you see a photo..ie. I will use myself as an example...I have huge eyes and I have to be careful that I don't open them so wide, with different expressions when someone is taking my photo!
if you are standing turn slightly and rest your weight on one food, might feel a little awkward but it will look good!
sitting-lean to one side or another
Lean slightly toward the camera. Think of having a long neck, tilt your chin down just a bit and to prevent the shot from being right up your nostrils;)
try to relax when you are having your photo taken, sounds much easier than it is!

My job is to also try to find the best possible pose for you and help you relax and look great..so I hope that I am doing my job right

Hope that helps I know it did for me
