TOPIC: Bride with a budget

Bride with a budget 2 Years, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Big surprise I have a budget for my wedding. I'm hoping to keep it in the $10,000-$15,000 this means I'm going to have to sacrifice some of my grand dreams of the perfect fairy tale wedding. What I want to know is; where would other brides put the big money into and what would you be more frugal with?

2 things to splurge on...

#1, your photos. You will cherish these forever, and will likely be disappointed if you skimp here.

#2, the food. If you're not stuck on the traditional sit down dinner, a cocktail style reception with susbstantial yet "finger" type food (food stations) will help cut down costs.

Forget about the cake! Forget about the favours, programs and bonbonierres. Also...I bought a clutch to match my dress...held it for the very first part of the day, then not again. A waste of money.

Good luck!

I have a similar budget for 100 people. We are spending money on food/open bar and photography. We are hoping to save money by doing a lot of stuff ourselves (center pieces, invites, decor). We also chose a Friday which is saving us some money - the venue did not charge us a rental for the hall ($1000), the photographer took $500 off her package and I we are keeping the wedding party small. In total I have saved about $2000 so far.

It is totally doable you just have to prioritize.

Another suggestion is book sooner than later.
A lot of different types of vendors raise their prices each year in the spring. (Some do it at other times, but a lot do it March-May). So if you want to book a 2011 wedding at 2009 prices, do it soon!

Wedding decorations are what gives your wedding its own unique atmosphere, personality, and mood. Wedding decorations are the most dominent visual element, especially at the wedding reception. It is your wedding decorations that literally help make the wedding theme come to life.
Save money and time- By renting decorations rather than buying everything. It is fact that most rental items are rented for 1/5th to 1/10 the actual cost to purchase.
By reserving your rented items early it is possible to save (especially if you choose from wedding decorators established inventories).
Consider choosing only two or three wedding decorating ideas that really add visual impact and/or compliment the decor elements already provided by your venue.
Focus your wedding decorations on your reception. Remember guests will spend most of their time at the reception on your wedding day. When people speak of a great wedding they usually reflect on how the food tasted or was presented, the fine music they heard and how nice the decorations looked.

You have to think about what's important to you.
For me, giving my family a GREAT dinner and GREAT wine was what's important, so we devoted 50% of our budget to the reception costs.

I'm using a friend's wedding dress (just a few alterations), and doing all the invitations myself. It saves you BIG BUCKS so you can splurge on the things that are important to YOU.

Best of luck!
